The primary responsibility of the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office is to prosecute state criminal offenses. These cases include simple traffic matters, DUI’s, misdemeanor property crimes, domestic battery, felony theft, burglary and robbery, drug offenses, sex offenses, child abuse, juvenile delinquency, and homicide.
The State’s Attorney’s Office is also responsible for the enforcement of child support orders through a partnership with the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The State’s Attorney’s Office also acts as legal counsel for Champaign County, its elected officials and departments. The Office is responsible for negotiating labor contracts with the County’s union employees, conducting and managing litigation initiated by or against the County, advising County officials and the County board on legal matters, and enforcing County ordinances.
